Cliff was born November 3, 1938 in Rural Guthrie County, Iowa to Clarence Albert and Fern Perl (Emmons) Putney. He grew up near the Monteith area and attended schools in Menlo and Guthrie Center. Cliff started working at an early age as a farm hand for local farmers around the area and his father in construction before moving to Redfield in 1959 and working at the brickyard. He worked at the brickyard for nearly 15 years before being employed as a truck driver for Super Value in Des Moines. He loved this job and was employed there for 28 years. Cliff always kept himself busy. Following Super Value, he drove school bus for the West Central Valley School and ran Putney Lawn Service and Putney Scrap iron. Cliff was united in marriage to Donna (King) Putney in 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska and together they lived on an acreage north of Redfield before making their home in town. Cliff was a member of the Morrisburg Church and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 147, which is now 238. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite past time was visiting. Cliff had that type of personality that the first time you met him it felt like you’ve known him forever.
Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Fern Putney, one grandson, Dustin Leaf and one great granddaughter, Natilee Love and one sister, Linda Sudbrock.
