Joyce was born April 5, 1940 to Chester and Elizabeth (Bancroft) Moore near Menlo, Iowa.  She grew up near Menlo and Panora before graduating from Menlo High School with the class of 1958.  She attended SWICC in Creston majoring in Business.  She was united in marriage to Myron Akers.  To this union she was blessed with six children: Jolena, Jennifer, Matt, Melissa, Monte and Melody.  She lived most her life in the Menlo area and she enjoyed living on the farm.  She worked as a CNA and Medical Aid at the Panora and Stuart Care Centers.  Following Myron’s death she was married to Clifford Welker.

In her spare time she loved to crochet, knit and sew.  Joyce cherished the times she was able to spend with her grandchildren playing video games or reading to them.  She enjoyed playing cards, reading, using her computer and traveling.  Her greatest love came from her belief in God and she worshiped him by reading scripture, singing hymns and southern gospel, playing piano and praying.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Myron Akers and Clifford Welker; brother, Charles Moore; and daughter-in-law, Linda Akers.
