Shirley was born on July 1, 1926 to Frank and Bess (Smith) Clampitt in Madison County, Iowa. She grew up on a farm, east of Earlham. She attended Earlham Community Schools and graduated from Earlham High School with the Class of 1944. On December 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Anker in Earlham. To this union two daughters were born, Nancy and Elizabeth. The family made their home on an acreage north of Earlham. Shirley was a member of the Earlham United Methodist Church, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Earlham Chautuaqua Club. In her spare time she enjoyed shopping, attending club functions and helping anyone in need. Although her greatest sense of joy came from time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished each and every one of them in a unique way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Mel) Vaughn.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 71 years, Charles of Earlham; daughters, Nancy (Cliff) Johnson of Waterloo and Elizabeth (Mark) Earhart of Stuart; grandchildren: Jeffery (Alice) Englin, Shannon (Jeff) Dole, Daniel (Heather) Englin, Michael (Heather) Englin, J.B.
