Agnes “Mickie” Caroline (Ferrie) Arnburg passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at The Bridges of Ankeny. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Earlham Rescue Unit. Mickie was born at home on August 27, 1923, to Irven and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Ferrie of Schely. She was the 5th of 11 children. She went to country school until the age of 14 when she began working. She moved to Des Moines with a friend and began working as a cook.
She moved to Earlham in 1953 and raised her five children in the community. She cooked at the Earlham Community School, Bentler’s Truck Stop, DeSoto Truck Stop and at the Earlham Tavern.
Mickie enjoyed baking, reading, gardening, walking, quilting, playing scrabble and word finds. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her five wonderful children: Gary (Sheri) of Earlham, David (Candy) of Northbrook, IL, Larry (Patty) of Earlham, Terry Nervig of Ankeny and Richard (Gayle) of Bondurant; 13 grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; honorary daughter, Tricia (Mark) Hirsch; and sister-in-law, Marie Ferrie.
She had the privilege of having four other good friends in life: Laurie Leeper of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Jo and Jerry Corrigan of Earlham and Alberta Turley.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and ten siblings: Leland, Joe, Art, Jerome, Cletus, Ronnie, Cecil, Mary Jean Hyke, Sister Mary Denise, Anicetus Friedhoff and friend, Alberta Turley and Jo Corrigan.
