Anna “Tulle” Harlan, 81, of Stuart passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2015 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 17th at South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Anna Harlan Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Tulle as she was known by family and friends was born July 23, 1933 in Montana to Emil A. and Gudren Paulson Hansen. She grew up in Askov, Minnesota and graduated from Askov High School with the class of 1951. During her high school years, Tulle was involved in mixed chorus, band and the science club. After graduating, she moved to Iowa and enrolled into Grandview College in Des Moines where she received her teaching degree in 1953. She was employed shortly after as an elementary teacher within the Menlo School District. Tulle was united in marriage to Dale Harlan on November 25, 1955 in Luck, Wisconsin and together they made their home on a farm outside of Menlo. After their marriage, Tulle stayed home and raised their children and would substitute off and on throughout the years in Menlo. In her later years she was employed by McDonald’s in Stuart. Tulle and Dale attended the United Methodist Church in Menlo for several years before becoming a member of the Stuart Congregational Church. She enjoyed being a Den Mother while her boys were involved in Scouts, gardening, reading, collecting stamps, socializing with friends and spending quality time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Gudren Hansen, son, Jeff Harlan, one infant baby and one great grandchild, Bradley Klindt.
Tulle leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Dale Harlan of Stuart; her children, Howard (Bev) Harlan of Casey and their children Missy McMurphy, Mickie (Joe) Blank, Mindy (Dennis) Pavlich and Megan (Ryan) Thomas; Gretchen Harlan Mowry (Tommy Barton) of Tulsa and her children Olivia Mowry and John Miller Mowry; daughter-in-law Deb Harlan (Arlan Blazek) of Greenfield and her children, Carolyn (Dana) Joslin; Steven (Megan) Scrivner, and Alexander Harlan; great grandchildren, Shaela and Kyle Klindt, Kathryn Blank, Andrew and Ethan Rote, Henry Scrivner, Emily Joslin, Burton Joslin, Elliot Joslin; brother, Peter Hansen; sister, Edith Hansen and a host of extended family and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
