Annabel Lee Stonehocker, 85, of Dexter, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 19, 2024. She was born on the family farm 3 ½ miles Southeast of Auburn, Iowa on April 20, 1938, the 3rd daughter of Frances Leone (Meyer) Williamson and Lynn Arthur Williamson. Annabel grew up working on the farm alongside her parents and 3 sisters, Carol, Lynnette and Glenda until Lynn retired in 1956, when he moved his family into the town of Auburn. Annabel attended and graduated from Auburn High School in 1956 after which, she moved to Minneapolis, Minn. There she attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology receiving her diploma for Lab and X-Ray technician.
In her early career, Annabel worked at the Redfield Clinic and Hospital from 1965 to 1972 as the Lab and X-Ray Technician. She then dedicated her talents to the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, where she held various roles until her retirement in 2003.
She moved to Redfield in 1965 where she stayed until building her dream home on Diamondhead Lake in 1993. This was her happy place and where she lived until her passing. Whether it was sitting on her porch, watching the activities on the lake, or sipping cocktails with her friends, Annabel cherished every moment. Inheriting the travel bug from her parents, Annabel journeyed through 15 countries with her daughter and tackled 45 states alongside her mother and sisters.
Outside of work, Annabel had a multitude of hobbies that brought her immense joy. She delighted in making quilts and baby blankets, finding solace in the art of creation. Her love for nature extended to birdwatching and identifying different species. Annabel thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, completing challenging jigsaw puzzles, and talking with cherished friends.
Annabel is survived by her four children: Vickie Stonehocker and her wife Pamela Waymire from Melbourne, Florida; Merlyn (Tammy) Stonehocker from Martin, Tennessee; Kenny Stonehocker of Redfield, Iowa; and Tim (Jenny) Stonehocker of Olathe, Kansas. She was grandmother to; Matthew Stonehocker and great grandson Matthew Stonehocker Jr., granddaughter Lacy (Klaus) Krause, great grandson Johnny Dickerson and great granddaughters Sadie and Emma Dickerson, grandson Devon Stonehocker, granddaughter Abby (Sam) Wurm, grandson Sean Stonehocker and granddaughter Katie Stonehocker. Annabel is also survived by her sister, Glenda (Williamson) Bradshaw of Omaha, Neb, along with nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Annabel was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Leone (Meyer) Williamson; father, Lynn Arthur Williamson; sister, Carol Ann (Williamson) Flavell; brother-in-law, Bill Flavell; sister, Lynnette (Williamson) Town; and brother-in-law, Harold Town.
A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa on March 4th at 4 P.M. followed by a reception at the American Legion Hall in Redfield. Burial will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Auburn, Iowa next to her parents at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to cancer or dementia research.
Annabel Lee Stonehocker will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her quick wit, love for her family, and zest for life will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved her. Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts.
