Wayne as he was known by family and friends, was born April 9, 1924 to Archibald and Clara Alice (Slight) Jones in Winterset, Iowa. Most of Wayne’s life was spent in and around Stuart. At a young age, Wayne had to quit school to help his family so he took up working for local farms around the area. On January 18, 1943, he was united in marriage to Cleta Pauline Waddell in Grant City, Missouri and together they became the proud parents of four children, Archie, Paul, Rusty and Cleta. After their marriage, Wayne enlisted into the United States Navy and during this time was stationed aboard the USS Rudyerd Bay Aircraft Carrier in the Pacific Theater. After Wayne’s honorable discharge he returned home and continued working. Wayne was most known for being the Stuart City Police Officer for many years before retiring. After his retirement, he worked at the BP Station in Stuart. Wayne was a lifetime member of the Stuart American Legion and a longtime member of the Stuart Friends Church, where he served on the church board and was a past trustee. He enjoyed hunting, camping, family vacations, listening to country music and spending time with his family and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Clara, beloved wife, Pauline on July 23, 2014, great grandson, Daniel Lee Jones, and his brothers and sisters.
Wayne leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children, Archie (Vi) Jones of Stuart, Paul (Marilyn) Jones of Menlo, Rusty (Terry) Jones of Redfield, and Cleta (Steve) Sullivan of Casey; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
