Betty Lou Beaman, 92, passed away January 25, 2017 at Kennybrook Village, Grimes, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 28th at All Saints Catholic Church, Stuart, Iowa.
Betty was born May 27, 1924 in Appanoose County, Iowa to Ernest and Sunbeam Strunk. She never attended High School – at the age of 12 her mother died suddenly of appendicitis. Betty stayed home to care for the rest of the family. She met the love of her life and married Clarence Beaman on September 3, 1946. She farmed with her husband Clarence for over 40 years south of Stuart, Iowa. They later rented out the farm, retired and moved to Warsaw, Missouri where they bought 80 acres. In their first ten years of retirement they built several houses, a lumber yard, a Dairy Queen, an Opry house and a camp ground. Today it’s known as Truman Junction. Clarence and Betty were the owners of Uncle Bob’s Truman Lake Opry Show at Truman Junction for several years. Betty was always active in the church. She volunteered for hospice in both Missouri and Iowa. She was a loving caregiver. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has resided at Kennybrook Village since October 2015.
Betty is survived by her children: Gary Beaman, Mary (Steve) Williams, Becky Groh and Mike (Linda) Beaman; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; sister, Catherine Angstrom; brother, Richard (Joyce) Strunk; sister-in-law’s: Kathleen Fagan, Kathy Strunk and Freda Jackson; and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Sunbeam Strunk, step-mother Hattie Strunk, her husband Clarence, two infant siblings, her brothers Darrell, Norlan, Cam, Bill, Neal, and Jim Strunk; sister in laws: Margarite Hogan, Helen, Marge and Norma Strunk; brother in law: Pete Angstrom; and her son William Beaman.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the All Saints Catholic Church, Stuart, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Fire and Rescue unit or Suncrest Hospice. The family would like to thank the staff at Kennybrook Village and Suncrest Hospice for the care and compassion that they provided.
