Obituary for Beulah "Boots" Mae Mallory
Beulah (Boots) Mallory was born on August 13, 1938 in Wyandotte, Oklahoma and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 11, 2021.
Boots grew up in the Miami, Oklahoma area until she was 11 years old. She moved to Iowa and lived with Aunt Lilly and Uncle Bud in Glenwood until she moved to Council Bluffs at age 16. There she attended Abraham Lincoln High School and worked part time as a waitress. In 1955, she began working as a cashier at Rog and Scotty’s Super Valu. There she met the love of her life, Allen Mallory. They were united in marriage on June 8, 1958. To this union were born 5 children – Julie, Skip, Kelly, Jeff and Matt. The family lived in Council Bluffs until 1968 when Al and Boots purchased the Super Valu store in Stuart. They worked and lived in Stuart until 2005 when they retired to Waukee.
During her life, Boots was always focused on her family and assisted Al at the store. She was active in Jay-cettes, Delphian, PEO, The First Congregational Church, Christian Women’s Club, Red Hats, Campfire Girls, Cub Scouts, PTA and was always a room mother for all of her children’s classes. Many students in the Stuart Elementary School ate her sugar cookies and had her famous punch. She was also an avid golfer.
Boots was loved by many and touched the lives of everyone she knew. As a Sunday School teacher, she showed the love of Jesus to all her students. As a Campfire Girl leader, she taught her girls how to care and have compassion for all. The girls were always laughing and could not wait to see what they would learn next. As a parent, Boots taught her children to work hard, be proud of what they did and be the best they could – you know, if you don’t, you are only hurting yourself. She would tell them that they needed to appreciate every day because this could be the last time they might see each other.
Boots was so talented. She was the master of all she pursued. She was a real homemaker and could have won any cooking contest. Boots was always known for her cooking. If anyone ever walked in the door, she would ask them if they had eaten and would whip up whatever they wanted. No one ever left her home without being fed. She was especially known for her meatloaf and sloppy joes.
Words cannot describe how much she will be missed by her family and friends. Her example of grace and love through pain, heartache and sorrow will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She faced pain daily after October 1965, but she was grateful that she was alive and able to take care of her family. Her family was her life and breath. They know that God has truly blessed them by placing them into her care for the last 83 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Mallory; mother, Hester Petty; siblings, Lenore Wyrick, Hazel Ivey, Joe Buttrum and great nephew, Grant Forristall.
Boots is survived by her children Julie Paetznick, Allen Mallory, Jr., Kelly Mallory, Jeffrey Mallory and Matthew and Ying Mallory; grandchildren Nicholas (Kassandra) Mallory, Corey Paetznick, Ashley (John Tyler) Slayton, Christine Mallory, Lucas Mallory and Kyleigh Mallory; great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Makenna, Blaine, Quinton, Arianna, Knox, and Weston; nieces, Tammy (Ron) Zika, Terri (Andy) Anderson, and Michelle (Randall) Forristall; other family members and many, many friends.
Visitation will be held at Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 5-7 pm. Services will be held at The First Congregational Church in Stuart on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 10:30. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Beulah Mallory Memorial Fund.
