Bobby D. Thompson, 87 of West Des Moines passed away on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, November 24th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Services will be live-streamed on our Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/JohnsonFamilyFH). Burial with military honors will be at the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Luncheon will follow in the café side of the Westside Bar & Grill in Earlham. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bobby Thompson Memorial Fund. Bobby was born on January 19, 1934 to Scott and Ruby (Madren) Thompson outside of Redfield. He grew up on the family farm and attended Redfield Schools. Bobby then enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean War. On July 22, 1956 he was united in marriage to Madeline Thompson and to this union three children were born: Michael, Marla and Michele. The family made their home in Des Moines, Dallas Center and lastly in West Des Moines. Bobby was a Des Moines Firefighter for 28 years before his retirement. He enjoyed cars and people; never meeting a stranger. He was a member of the Waukee VFW and Living Faith Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Scott and Ruby Thompson; brothers, Vern and Scotty Thompson; sisters, Darlene Chinberg and Pauline Seaton; brothers-in-law, Butch Parker and Virgil Seaton; sister-in-law, Rhoda Thompson and great-grandson, Matthew Sunberg.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Madeline; son, Michael (Rose) Thompson; daughters, Marla (Terry) Sunberg and Michele (Beav) McDaniel; grandchildren: Julie (Rob) Schreurs, Lindsey (Tyler) Eason, Nick Hoffman, Monica (Jake) Lawson, Amanda Young, Missy (Kyle) Tena, Levi McDaniel and Shelby McDaniel; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Gwen, Nile, Alexander, Vivienne, Montana, Blaine, Gannon, Matty, Hailey, Garrett, Mia, Emma, George, Violet and Eleanor; sister, Judy Parker; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
