Obituary for C. Colette Martes Alexander
Catherine Colette (Martes) Alexander, 84, of Grimes, passed away peacefully at her home on November 29, 2019. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, December 3rd, 2019 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 4th, at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Burial will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Colette Alexander Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Colette as she was known, by family and friends, was born, January 29th, 1935 in Stuart, Iowa to Harry John and Catherine (Acheson) Martes. She was raised in Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1953. Colette was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Frederick LeRoy Alexander on April 21st, 1956 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Following the marriage, they resided in Des Moines, Boone, Marshalltown and Ankeny. After LeRoy’s retirement, they moved to Lake Ponderosa in Montezuma. They lived there until moving to Grimes. Together they enjoyed making memories at the lake with their family. Taking the pontoon out one the lake for wine and cheese was one of their favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed collecting Precious Moments, knitting, ceramics, playing games with her family and friends, shopping, going to the casino with her brother Jim and his wife Sharon, camping, fishing, and watching a good race with her husband, but most of all she enjoyed quality time spent with her family. She rarely missed an opportunity to go to one of her grandchildren’s events.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Catherine Martes; her beloved husband LeRoy on September 4, 2015 and sister, Phyllis Martes Henry.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Cathy (Randy) Heston of Derby, Iowa, Mike (Brenda) Alexander of Indianola, Iowa and Tom (Michele) Alexander of Grimes, Iowa; grandchildren, Eric (Kelly) and Adam (Reaghan Buckels) Derby, Iowa, Andrea (Brad Chase) Alexander of Bondurant, Iowa and Nicole Alexander of Indianola, Iowa, Emily, Caitlin and Jacob Alexander of Grimes, Iowa great granddaughter, Brooklyn Chase of Bondurant, Iowa; brother, Jim (Sharon) Martes of Altoona, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law’s, Bill (Jane) Alexander of Williamsburg, Iowa and Jim (Joyce) Alexander of Lafayette, Colorado, many nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
