Obituary for Carl Eugene Dudley
Carl Eugene Dudley, 90 formerly of Redfield passed away peacefully on November 25, 2015 at Legacy Care Center in Waukee, Iowa. A private family service will be held on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Redfield United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Carl was born April 5, 1925 to Earl and Jennie Mae (Marion) Dudley in Panora, Iowa. His family then moved to Redfield where he attended High School.
In 1943 he applied and was accepted into the Air Force Aviation Cadet Program. He graduated in 1945 from the Advanced flying school as a single engine fighter pilot and a 2nd lieutenant at Luke Air Field in Arizona. He was then transferred to Offutt Air Field near Omaha, Nebraska and was an aerobatic flight instructor.
When he returned home he attended college at Ames, and continued flying. He married Margery Harvey on June 4, 1949 and they moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where he worked for the National Weather Bureau and flew in the Air National Guard. They eventually returned to Redfield to farm and to raise their family. Three children were born to this union: Diane, Sandra, and Dick.
Carl was active in the Redfield Lions Club, served as a member and President of the Dexfield School Board and belonged to the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and just being outdoors. He stayed on the farm until he moved to Bickford Assisted Living in West Des Moines, Iowa in 2010, due to health reasons.
He is preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife, Margery, and his siblings, Max, Glen, John, Verna and Dean.
Those left to honor his memory are his sisters; Norma Dudley of Adel and Elaine Petersen of Redfield; Brother-in-law Gerald Harvey of Stuart; Children Diane (John) Loffredo of West Des Moines, Sandy Dudley of West Des Moines, and Dick (Angie) Dudley of Granger. Also surviving are Grandchildren; Amy Loffredo, Jennie (Kevin) Hogan, Toni, Joel, Hope, Nathan, and John Dudley; Great Grandchildren, Ellie Knauf, and Grace, Claire, and Ben Hogan and a host of other family and friends all of whom will miss his greatly.
