Obituary for Charles Martin "Marty" Forcht
Charles Martin “Marty” Forcht, 62, of Stuart, Iowa passed away September 5, 2014 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Visitation tribute will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Marty Forcht Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Marty, as he was known, was born on March 23, 1952 to Nile and Jean (Schirm) Forcht. Marty grew up in Stuart attending grade school and high school, graduating with the class of 1970. After graduating he enrolled at DMACC where he received his Associates of Arts degree in drafting. Marty enlisted in the Iowa National Guard Air Force and was active for 6 years. He was united in marriage to Nancy Johnson in 1976 and to this union two children were born, Scott and Sally. He was employed as a draftsman for Doherty Construction in Des Moines before he started his own construction company "Forcht Construction" and built many homes, garages, etc throughout the years.
In his early years Marty enjoyed their many camping trips and their adventures to Minnesota to a relatives resort to stay for a week every summer. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many weekends with his family boating and skiing at Lake Panorama. His family and many friends will miss the special deer jerky and deer sticks he made and shared every year. Another thing he looked forward to was his annual fishing trip to Canada with his fishing buddies. He was an avid bowler and bowled in a couple leagues in Stuart. Marty was in boy scouts in his youth and in later years he was a member of the Stuart Lions Club. He enjoyed classic cars. He also was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed pulling for their football and basketball teams.
He is preceded in death by his parents Nile and Jean (Schirm) Forcht, maternal and paternal grandparents and his brother Steve.
Celebrating his life is son Scott Forcht (Tasha) of Des Moines and daughter Sally Burkman (Scott) of Dexter; grandchildren Ruby Forcht, Flynn Forcht, and Ava Burkman; sisters Nyla (Ron) Maas of Menlo and Deb (Charlie) Funaro of Des Moines; sister-in-law Sue Forcht of Stuart and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many friends he had thru his lifetime.
