Obituary for Cheri Peterson
Cheri Lynn (Shoemaker) Peterson passed away peacefully on February 22, 2020 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. Graveside memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 29th at Dalmanutha Cemetery, rural Casey. Luncheon and time of fellowship will follow the service at the Casey Community Building. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com

Cheri was born on September 4, 1948 in Lake City, IA to Mavis (Solt) Shoemaker and Carl “Bruce” Shoemaker. She joined her sister Sandy (Shoemaker) Lanphier and a short time later was joined by her brother Alan Shoemaker and sister Vicki (Shoemaker) Meyer.

Cheri married Ross Peterson on February 24, 1968 and they had two children Shelly and Jeff. They were together for almost 52 years.

Cheri held various jobs throughout her lifetime; banking, insurance, healthcare. Although nothing compared to her being a wife and mom. She was a hard worker and always busy doing something; baking, cooking, cleaning, running her kids to activities, helping her husband with book work, gardening or things around the house. She was very close to her parents and siblings as well and the stories that were shared about them growing up were very entertaining and brought tears of laughter to our eyes. There were many girl’s weekends spent at Lake View, IA where her parents lived for quite a few years; she loved those weekends. Cheri enjoyed swing dancing with Ross on those occasions where they attended a wedding reception or a night on the town; they were a sight to see. Although her son, Jeff, lived further away, he visited often. This gave Cheri and Ross a chance to travel and experience their first cruise. Cheri enjoyed Christmas shopping with her daughter, Shelly, in Omaha as they did this for many years and she loved being a grandma to Tyler, Brent and Kelsey.

Cheri is survived by her husband Ross of Casey, Iowa; daughter Shelly (Peterson) Stonacek and husband Jeff of Omaha, NE; son Jeff Peterson of Napa, CA. She is also survived by her three grandchildren Tyler, Brent and Kelsey Stonacek of Omaha, NE; brother Alan Shoemaker and wife Julie of Urbandale, IA; sister Vicki Meyer and husband Dan of Ankeny, IA; brother-in-law Ralph Peterson and wife Toni of Casey, IA; sister-in-law Pam Koch of Fordyce, NE; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carl “Bruce” Shoemaker and Mavis Shoemaker; sister Sandy Lanphier; father/mother-in-law Lloyd and Helen Peterson; brother-in-law Dennis Koch; nephew Gage Koder.
