Colin J "Cole" Stiles, 66, of Redfield, Iowa passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024, in Iowa, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born on May 3, 1958, in the heart of Dexter, Cole's infectious laughter and friendly demeanor touched all who knew him. Celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 26th from 5:30-8:30 PM at the Dexter Roundhouse.
Cole's early years in Dexter were filled with athletic achievements and camaraderie. A proud graduate of Dexfield High School, class of 1976, he was renowned for his sportsmanship and skill. Cole shone as the quarterback for the 1973 state champion Dexfield Blue Devils, and he also excelled in baseball, track, band and basketball. His love for the game was only matched by his love for his teammates and the community that supported them.
In 2007, Cole married his beloved wife, Terri Smithart, in a beautiful ceremony at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Together, they created a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their children. Cole was a devoted husband and father, and his family was his pride and joy. His daughters, Tessa (Mike) Stiles, Mollie (Mike) Stiles, Nettie (Josh) Stiles, and his stepson, Graham Boehm, will carry forward his legacy of kindness and zest for life. Cole's grandchildren, Morgunn, Maxton, Madalynn, and Mera J, were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Cole's professional life was marked by his dedication and leadership. For 30 years, he was a respected supervisor at the Sioux City Brick and Tile in Adel, where his colleagues valued his guidance and friendship. His work ethic and commitment to his role were evident in the quality of his work and the respect he earned from those around him.
Away from work, Cole's passions were many and varied. His love for Blues Music was well known, and he could often be found tapping his feet to the rhythm of his favorite tunes. Cole's homemade ice cream was legendary, especially at birthday celebrations where he would delight family and friends with his latest creation. An avid outdoorsman, he relished the serenity of hunting and the camaraderie of fishing trips with his buddies to Canada. Locals often saw him enjoying Saturday morning breakfasts at the legion in Redfield, and he treasured the Sunday morning coffee sessions with his dad and sister, a testament to the close-knit bonds within his family.
Cole's sisters, Rhonda (Rick) Cummins and Carmen Apple, will remember him as the funny and passionate brother who always brought warmth and humor to their lives. He also leaves behind all his buddies in the Possums group. He loved and cherished your friendship through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Vivian Stiles, his stepson Jesse Boehm in 2008, and his mother and father-in-law, Earl and Sarah Smithart.
Those who knew Cole will forever remember his funny quips, his unwavering friendship, and his passionate approach to life. He left an indelible mark on the hearts of many, and his memory will continue to inspire laughter and love in those who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
Cole lived a life that exemplified joy, friendship, and passion. As we bid farewell to a man who was so much to so many, we take comfort in knowing that his spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the simple pleasures of life, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
