Obituary for Colleen Gail Ruppert
Colleen Gail Ruppert, 85, of Casey, Iowa passed away July 9, 2021, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2021, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Casey. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will immediately follow the service in Dalmanutha Cemetery in rural Guthrie County, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colleen Ruppert Memorial Fund. Colleen was born February 8, 1936, in Walnut Township, Adair County, Iowa to William (Bill) and Ola Marie (Bassett) Stolk. She grew up in Casey and graduated from Casey High School with the class of 1953. Following high school Colleen attended nurses training at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Colleen was united in marriage to Burdette H. Ruppert on October 12, 1955, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa. To this union three daughters were born: Christy, Diane and Jan. After their marriage they lived in Atlantic for a short time before making their home in Casey to raise their daughters. Colleen worked as a nurse at the Atlantic Hospital and then for Dr. Norman Krueger in Casey for many years. After retiring, Colleen took care of her grandchildren and several other children. She was especially proud to be known as ‘Nana Colleen’ by Paige and Ben Kingery. She was a lifelong member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was baptized on April 26, 1936, and confirmed on April 2, 1950. She served with devotion in her church, belonging to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, church choir and helping with church and funeral dinners. She was also active with the Oakwood Cemetery Board, 5x80 Country Club Board, Casey Library Board, was on the Casey Library building committee, traveled with the Heritage Club at the Guthrie County State Bank and a long term member of the Casey Women’s Club. She enjoyed shopping, especially for clothes, bowling in her earlier years, reading, traveling, following Ben and Paige’s sporting and dance events and playing cards with the local pinochle card group.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marie Stolk, her husband, Burdette on July 28, 1990, in-laws, Harold and Marie Ruppert, sister-in-Law, Geraldine (Gerry) and husband Lowell Fisk, brothers-in-law, Robert (Bob) and wife Ella May Ruppert, Darwynn Ruppert, and son-in-law, John Zimmer.
Colleen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Christy Ruppert, Diane (Bruce) Vorm and Jan (Tom) Tuffin all of Casey, Iowa; Grandchildren, Shon(Heidi) Zimmer and children, Collin, Colton, and Caroline, Jason Zimmer, Shawna (Dale) Kier and Theo, Steven (Nora)Tuffin, Staci (Eric) Wendt, many nieces and nephews (to whom she sent birthday cards every year) and special traveling companion and cousin, Myrna Whetstone.
