Obituary for Dale E. Slayton
Dale E. Slayton, 94 of Guthrie Center formerly of Casey, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center. Memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, August 16th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the at Union Cemetery in Guthrie Center. Time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the burial at the Casey United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Dale Slayton Memorial Fund and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Dale was born on December 17, 1922 to Lona and Bea (Cress) Slayton in Audubon County, Iowa. He was the third of six children. He attended schools through the 8th grade, at that time he began working on the family farm. On October 15, 1944 he was united in marriage to Fannie Lane. To this union two children were born: Deb and Darrell. The family made their home on the farm outside of Casey.
Dale continued to farm for 56 years and also ran Slayton Manufacturing for 39 years. He was a member of the Baker Township Horse Racing Club and was a former Trustee for Walnut Township. He loved racing horses, visiting with friends and most of all spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie; parents; and siblings: Glenn, Helen and Donald.
Dale leaves behind his children, Deb Slayton of Waukee and Darrell Slayton (LuAnn Slayton) of Manson; grandchildren, Rachel Whetstone and Nate Slayton; great-grandchildren: Jalen and Javon Whetstone; siblings, Betty Sorensen of Guthrie Center and Harold Slayton of Ocala, Florida and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
