Obituary for Daniel L. Stiles Sr.
Daniel L. Stiles Sr., 70, of Dexter passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. Memorial visitation will be held from 2-4 P.M. on Saturday, March 25th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Dexter Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Des Moines VA Hospital and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Daniel was born on February 10, 1947 to Carroll and Vera (Gowdy) Stiles in Dexter, Iowa. He attended Dexfield Schools and graduated from Dexfield High School with the class of 1965. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned home to Dexter where he held various jobs lastly working at Ramark for 25 years.
Daniel was a lifelong member of the Dexter American Legion. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, trapping, hunting and watching horse and dog races. Daniel made several trips fishing to Minnesota and Canada with his brothers and nephews. He spent many hours scrapping iron with his father. He attended the Iowa State Fair every year and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Darlene (Clare) Gruber, Dona Darce, and Dean (Vivian) Stiles; sister-in-law, Trudy Stiles and brother-in-law, Gerald Stanley.
Daniel is survived by his children: Kelly (Randy) Sutton of Waukee, Cindy Stiles of Dexter, Danelle (Rob) Vogel of Waukee and Dan (Marcie) Stiles Jr. of Earlham; grandchildren: Joseph Stiles, Alex Drotzmann, Alissa Stiles, Ryan Stiles, Konnar Stiles, Dalton Vogel, Clayton Vogel and Alicyn Vogel; siblings: Kay Stanley of Dexter, Bill Stiles of Dexter. Jerry (Eleanor) Stiles of Dexter and Randy Stiles of Dexter; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff of the VA Hospital in Des Moines for the compassionate care they extended to Daniel and his family.
