Obituary for Darell Leroy Christensen
Darell Leroy Christensen, 77, of Stuart passed away February 11, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Stuart Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held following at 11:00 A.M. Friday following visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. Friday. with full military honors. Online condolences may be sent to www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Darell's service will be live streamed.

Darell was born December 19, 1944 to Leroy Theodore and Ione Jewel (Allen) Christensen in Menlo, Iowa. He was raised outside of Menlo and attended Menlo High School. At the age of 17, Darell enlisted into the United States Navy and during this time was stationed on the USS Lake Champlain before being honorably discharged on December 31, 1964. Following his discharge, he returned to the area and immediately started working for one of the local farmers. Darell was united in marriage to Kathy Wild on June 4, 1965, at the Christian Church in Redfield, Iowa and together they became the proud parents of two daughters, Valerie and Heather. They lived in Menlo and Redfield before making their home in Stuart. Darell farmed and ran a semi and dozer for many years before retiring. He did a lot of dozer work around the area and was known to be a perfectionist at his job. Darell enjoyed hunting, fishing, working outdoors, riding motorcycles, reading about every history book he could get his hands on, watching westerns and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Step-father Leo Wissler; one sister, Karen Martin; brothers-in-law, Don Carey and Gary Thompson; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Carey and Peggy Wild.

Darell leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Kathy Christensen of Stuart; daughters, Val (Kevin) Pieper of Stuart and Heather (Chris) Egger of Vinton, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeremy (Stephanie) Wells, Joshua (Rachael) Wells, and their son James, Lucas (Caitlyn) Pieper and their children Griffin and Lachlan, Lauren (Brant) Pieper and their children Aurora, Harper and Briar, Lindsay Pieper, Jessica (Matt) Moss, Kadie (Jeremy) Schuler and their children, Dalton, Clayton and Alicyn Vogel, Emma (Steven) Henry and their children, Lakin and Brooks and Jacob Egger; sister, Deborah (Robert) Kennedy of Ankeny; brother, Jack (Dellene) Wissler of Avoca; brother-in-law, Mervyn Wild of Nevada, sister-in-law, Beverly Wild of Guthrie Center and a host of nieces, nephews and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
