Darlene was born on March 22, 1921 to Verlin and Grace (Wirt) Hockett in Jackson Township, Guthrie County, Iowa. She attended school at Fairview Country School in Jackson Township and Redfield High School. She lived in Guthrie County from 1921-1946 on the farm near Morrisburg. In 1946, she moved to Guthrie Center with her parents. She began working at Keene Café in 1947 and then Randalph Produce. She spent several years cleaning houses and babysitting in Guthrie Center.

On June 12, 1955 she was united in marriage to Albert Harold Kinman at her parent’s home in Guthrie Center. The couple made their home in “the big white house” a home she lived at until she recently moved to Fleur Heights Care Center. She enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her flowers, raising her garden and canning produce. She was also known for her fresh baked breads and her passion for baking; a skill that won her numerous awards at the county fair. Most of all she valued her love with God and to the Bible; praying for all her family and friends. She joined the Methodist Church in Dale City in 1934 and was baptized in the river near Linden with her mother and brother, Wade. Darlene joined the Wesleyan Church in 1958 where she was a member for 48 years. She also taught Sunday School and held many offices within the church. In 2007, she joined the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center where she was involved in UMW, Lady’s Bible Class and various other committees.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents Verlin and Grace; siblings: Wade Hockett, Wayne Hockett, Freda Lively and Glenn Hockett; mother-in-law, Agnes Kinman; and several: nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Darlene leaves behind several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
