Obituary for Darlene Wilson Scar
Darlene Wilson Scar, 97, of Earlham passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, May 10th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Earlham Chapel. Memorial service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, May 11th at Peace Lutheran – rural Earlham. Burial will be at Penn Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Stuart Community Care Center, Every Step Hospice, or Peace Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Darlene Wilson Scar was born with her twin brother Dale Ross Wilson on May 13, 1921 in Stuart, Iowa. She died in Stuart on May 7, 2019, just 6 days before what would have been her 98th birthday.
After graduation from Dexter High School in 1939, Darlene married Alvin “Sam” Scar in 1941. Darlene and Sam lived on the family farm in Madison County Iowa for 35 years, where they raised their 4 sons. In 1975 they moved to Diamondhead Lake. Later in life Darlene lived in Earlham and finally in the Willows and Community Care Center in Stuart.
Darlene belonged to a neighborhood farm ladies club for 50 years called the Dizzy Dozen. She was active in Chautauqua Circle and the I-80 Porcelain Art Guild and the local Red Hat Club. Her hobby of china painting was very rewarding, resulting in many award-winning pieces at the Iowa State Fair. Her love of flowers and birds was well known and she enjoyed her family and church, Peace Lutheran.
In addition to her parents, Leora and Claiborne Wilson, Darlene was predeceased by her husband, Sam Scar, a son, Dennis Scar, daughter-in-law Connie Scar (wife of Robert) 3 infant siblings (Jack, Jean, and Mary), brothers Donald Wilson, Delbert Wilson, Claiborne “Junior” Wilson, Daniel Wilson and her twin brother Dale Wilson, and a sister Doris Wilson Neal.
She is survived by sons Richard Scar (Janice) of Buena Vista, Colorado, Robert Scar (Lisa) of Asheville, North Carolina, David Scar (Jere) of Woodward, Iowa, and daughter-in-law Christine Scar (wife of Dennis) of Earlham. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ken Scar (Greenville SC), Teresa Scar Fuston (Marietta, GA), Kathy Scar Brown (Vinson, OK), Julie Scar Repperger (Melbourne, FL), Michael Scar (Des Moines, IA), Deni Scar Sobek (Oak Ridge, TN), Christa Scar (Harlan, IA), Daniel Scar (Des Moines, IA), Timothy Scar (Woodward, IA) and Charles Scar (Earlham, IA). Darlene was blessed with eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild who also survive her.
