David Norman Larsen, 84, of Stuart passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 7th from 2-4 PM at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 7th at 4 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be direct to the Stuart Rescue Unit and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
David was born July 14, 1930 to Carl and Joy (Michael) Larsen in Audubon County, Iowa. He attended rural schools in Guthrie County and graduated from Panora High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army serving our country in the Korean War. David was united in marriage to Gladys Kness on December 9, 1952. To this union four children were born: Teresa, Dave, Laura and Diana. The family made their home on an acreage north of Stuart.
David was employed for many years at Monarch Cement Company and build many houses in the Stuart area. He enjoyed tinkering with anything he could and was considered a “jack of all trades” and took pride in everything he accomplished.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Teresa Ann (Larsen) O’Brien; grandson, Lance Murphy; and sisters, Irene Winter and Evelyn Wells.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Gladys; children, Dave (Terri) Larsen of Stuart, Laura Russell of Menlo and Diana (Bob) Sloss of Stuart; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and a host of nieces, nephews family and friends that will miss him dearly.
