Obituary for Dean John Blomquist
Dean John Blomquist, 86 of Menlo passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Funeral service will be held 1 P.M. on Friday, October 30th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Stuart Chapel. Burial will be beside his parents at the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart. Dean John Blomquist was born to Edith Mary Hicks and Reuben John Blomquist at the family home West of Menlo, Iowa on August 4, 1934. The family moved to a farm North of Stuart, Iowa then purchased a farm Northeast of Menlo, Iowa. Dean began his schooling at Menlo Grade School, Menlo, Iowa. He graduated from Menlo High School May of 1953. He lived with his parents on the family farm working in the fields, diligently mowing the lawn and spraying weeds.
He helped care for his father until his death in 1983. Dean took care of the house and helped care for his mother until her death in 1998. He continued to live on the family farm. He kindheartedly fed stray cats. Reading his Bible and feeding the wild birds was a favorite pastime until he required surgery and then began living at the Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa on October 27, 2017.
He is preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Robert; sister-in-law, Wanda; brother-in-law, Orrin Sweet; and niece, Donna Sweet.
Dean is survived by his sister, Arlene M. Sweet; nieces and nephews: Diane Sweet, Vicki Lowe (Dan), Mark Blomquist (Heidi), Kevin Blomquist; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
