Donald was born on December 7, 1938 to Orville and Ethel (Johnson) Henry in Winterset, Iowa. He graduated from Earlham High School in 1957, attended Northwest Missouri State University, then graduated from the Office Appliance Mechanical Institute, an office machine trade school in Springfield, Missouri. After graduation, he married Donna French and was blessed with two daughters. He later was united in marriage to Nancy Clark on February 14, 1987.
Donald was very active in the Winterset community and was a member of the Rotary Club, the Jaycees, and Oddfellows. He owned and operated a business selling and servicing office machines for over 20 years. He raised registered Black Angus cattle, worked and eventually managed the five-generation family farm, broke and trained horses, and worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker until retirement. Donald began collecting and restoring Maytag motors and washers in 1994. He was active in the Maytag Club and held an office for many years. A lifelong musician, he was a charter member of the Earlham High School jazz band under the direction of Jack Oatts, and became a member of the musicians union while still in high school.
Left to celebrate his memory are his wife, Nancy Clark; daughter Christy Henry; stepchildren Robin Clarke (Allan Molnar), and Matthew Clarke; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Ethel Henry; sisters Ruth Stork, Goldie Ruppert; brother Earl Henry; and daughter Becky Henry.
