Donald Shoesmith, 79, of Stuart passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 21st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial with military honors will immediately follow in the Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Donald Shoesmith Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Donald was born on September 3, 1945 to Virgil and Ruby (Warner) Shoesmith in Dexter, Iowa. He attended country school and Stuart High School graduating with the class of 1964. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in Vietnam. Upon returning home he began his lifelong career of farming. On September 17, 1971 he was united in marriage to Debbie Stodden. To this union four children were born: Amy, Paula, Mark and Janelle. The family made their home on the farm outside of Stuart.
In his spare time, he enjoyed watching wrestling and football, playing cards and camping. He loved farming and working on International Harvester tractors. Most of all he treasured time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Gayle, Beverly, Phyllis and one brother, Richard.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie of Stuart; children: Amy Shoesmith (Jay Bohm) of Dexter, Paula (Michael) Beitz of Dexter, Mark Shoesmith of Earlham, and Janelle (Donny) Teague of Stuart; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Jerry (Cliff) Kirfman of North Richland Hills, TX; sister-in-law, Helen Ann Shoesmith of Stuart; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
