Doris Marie Martin, 93 of Redfield passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, November 17th at the Redfield United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Harper Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Redfield United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be direct to the Redfield United Methodist Church. Doris was born on August 18, 1925 to Noble and Ola (Langford) Vanderpool in Pocahontas, Iowa. The family later moved to Missouri where she lived in Sedalia for several years. On June 23, 1943 she was united in marriage to Dickey L. Martin. To this union two daughters were born Linda and Carolyn. The family settled in Redfield in 1948 where she remained until her death.
Doris and Dickey owned and operated the Redfield Market grocery store. She also worked as a Lab Technician at the Redfield Medical Clinic; a job she dearly loved. She was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church, taught Sunday and Bible School and was a member of the American Legion Axillary. In her later years, she volunteered at the school.
She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Dickey; and all nine of her siblings.
She leaves behind her daughters: Linda (Jack) Chance of Redfield and Carolyn (Bill) Gast of Diamond Head Lake; grandchildren: Bob Gast of Council Bluffs, Kelli (Rob) Edwards of Peosta, Joe (Jen) Chance of Ankeny, Michelle (Larry) Christy of Winter Haven, FL, Erin (Nick) Grasty of Urbandale; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
