Dorothy was born October 29,1935 in Casey, Iowa to Henry and Gladys Floyd Carmichael. Later, the family moved to Redfield, where Dorothy attended Redfield School. She attained her GED later in life making her a proud graduate! She worked at various jobs throughout her life, including selling Avon where she became a Presidents Club member, but the job she was most proud of was being a loving full-time mother to her 4 children, and wife to husband Ed.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Ed Hutchins on Dec 22, 1952, in Winterset Iowa. This was her dad’s birthday, which was great. The December snowstorm was not. To this union four children were born: Karen, David, Larry, and Tammy. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, camping, playing cards, and loving each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, then great great-grandchildren.
She was baptized in 1968 at the Menlo Church of Christ where she was an active member. For the last 40 years she was a member of the Hickman Road Church of Christ in Des Moines where she taught children’s Bible classes. For over 30 years, she taught World Bible correspondence courses to students as far away as Africa. She sent many Bibles to those students.
Dorothy is proceeded in death by Ed, her loving husband of over 70 years, who passed from this world 4 months and 1 day before her. She is also preceded in death by her parents: Henry and Gladys Carmichael, baby brother, Donald Dean Carmichael; sister, Jane Trotter; grandchildren, Michael, and Eddie Gilmer.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory, Brothers: Albert (Mary) Carmichael of Redfield, and Kenny (Grace) Carmichael of Jefferson; children, Karen (Jim) Kaufman of Adel, David (Judy) Hutchins of Linden, Larry (Wanda) Hutchins of Spirt Lake, and Tammy (Tim) Nickell of Bagley; grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Montford, Jay (Alysia) Kaufman, Robert (Melissa) Kaufman, Amber Kaufman, David (Samantha) Hutchins, Jonathan (Chrisi) Hutchins, Adam (Mandi) Hutchins, Leah (Bobby) VanKirk, Molly Hutchins, Kelly Hutchins, Kyle Hutchins, Tyler (Ashley) Nickell, and Trevor Nickell; great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, Lydia (Trent), Caleb, Nathan, Brady, Chloe, Emma, Dustin, Brianna, Journey, Alexis, Tabitha, Violet, Gwen, David, Leo, Paul, Logan, Ashton, Wyatt, Waylon, Charlie Sue, Brody, Brayton, Conrad, and Octavia; great-great grandchild Carter, and special friends Gaylon and Rhonda Harrison of Des Moines.
