Dorothy Joan Sechrist-Hick, 80, of rural Stuart passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 28, 2023, in the Morrisburg cemetery in Rural Stuart. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the Stuart Odd Fellows and Rebecca’s Lodge.
Dorothy was born December 19, 1942, on the family farm north of Stuart to Ralph and Fern (Ratliff) McIntire. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural grade school up to the 7th grade. Dorothy graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1960. During her high school years, Dorothy participated in the glee club, mixed choir, and FHA. She was united in marriage to Donald Sechrist and together they made their home in Des Moines. To this union one son was born, Brian. She worked at Bankers Trust before being employed at Younkers in Des Moines where she worked for several years. In 1981, Dorothy moved back to the family farm with her son. While living in Stuart, Dorothy worked at the Cyclone Drive-In, and it was here she later met her future husband Dean Hick. They were married on July 29, 1990. Dorothy enjoyed flowers and was a member of the Stuart Garden Club. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis, working with her farm animals, loved family gatherings, reunions, and holidays, delivering RVs across the county with her husband Dean, bowling, and spending time with her son and grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Fern McIntire, sisters, Marjorie (Mike) Lilly, and Ruth (Bud) Daniels and nephew, Randy Daniels.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Dean of Stuart; son Brian Sechrist of Stuart; grandchildren Brice, Blake and Jolie of Stuart; step-children, Kevin (Mary) Hick of Rippey, Iowa, Sheila Wurth of Indianola, Iowa and David Hick of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Teresa (Hank) Bolton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Daryl (Tricia) of Winterset, Iowa, Shawn Lilly of Des Moines, and Scott Daniels, of Seymour, Tennessee and a host of other family members and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
