Douglas Gene White, age 79, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, in Redfield, Iowa, where he had been a lifelong resident. Born in Dexter, Iowan at the Dexter Hospital, on September 14, 1946, to Richard and Lorraine (Cooper) White, Doug was a cherished member of the community and a devoted family man.
Doug proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. After enlisting on July 24, 1964, he was stationed in San Diego, California, at the U.S. Naval Hospital, where he worked as a truck driver. He was honorably discharged on October 13, 1965. Following his service, he returned to Redfield and embarked on a long and fulfilling career as a self-employed truck driver, specializing in hauling for chicken farms. His work was not just a job but a passion, and his reputation as a reliable and hardworking individual was well-known throughout the industry.
On January 12, 2008, Doug was united in marriage to Beverly (Petersen) White. Together, they made their home in Redfield. Their love was evident to all who knew them, as they were rarely seen apart, and their companionship was a testament to their mutual devotion. Doug was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and he is survived by his wife, Beverly, his daughters Shelle (Terry) Benedict, Kristina (John Page) Hearn, his sons Douglas (Cammy) White, James (Stacy) Countryman, and Todd (Rhonda) Countryman. He was also a proud grandfather to nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
Doug's sister-in-law, Martha White, along with two nephews, will hold dear the memories of the times shared with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard White and Lorraine Cooper, and his brother, Dick White, who are now reunited with him in eternal peace.
Those who knew Doug will remember him as a man of many interests, with a particular love for the great outdoors. Fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes, providing him not only with a deep sense of relaxation but also a way to connect with nature and his companions. Doug's friendly demeanor, his handy nature, and his passionate approach to life endeared him to friends and family alike. He was the kind of person who would always lend a helping hand or share a kind word, and his presence brightened the lives of those around him.
A graduate of Dexfield High School, Doug's commitment to his hometown was evident in everything he did. From his military service to his professional life and his personal hobbies, he embodied the spirit of Redfield and was a shining example of its values.
As we bid farewell to Douglas Gene White, we celebrate a life lived with honor, joy, and an unwavering love for his family. His legacy will live on through the cherished memories he leaves behind and the impact he made on the many lives he touched. Doug's journey through life was marked by dedication, warmth, and a genuine passion for the things that mattered most to him. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
