Obituary for Earl L. Clayton
Earl L. Clayton, 59, of Dexter passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Taylor House Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, February 17th at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. on Monday, February 16th at the Dexter United Methodist Church. Tribute by the Dexter Fire Department will begin at 7:30 P.M. on Monday. Burial will be at the Dexter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Dexter Fire Unit and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Earl was born July 20, 1955 to Maylon Dale and Kathryn (Cly) Clayton in Greenfield, Iowa. He grew up and spent most of his life in Dexter. He attended Dexfield Schools. In 1972, he began working for RaMark in Dexter where he was employed for 35 years before their closing in 2008. After that he worked at Casey’s General Store part-time in Dexter; a job he enjoyed, especially being able to visit with friends. Earl served on the Dexter Fire Department for 41 years; this was Earl’s greatest enjoyment. Throughout this time those on the fire department became an extension of his family. He enjoyed attending stock-car races and being in the pits. He loved working on the race cars and attended races for many years at many tracks. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, bowling and visiting with old and new friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maylon and Kathryn Clayton.
He leaves behind his siblings: Mary Beck, Jane Clayton, Dale “Frankie” Clayton and Sharon Clayton; nieces, Sheila (Ronald) Thomas and Autumn Sanders; nephew, Kurt (Tonya) Beck; great-nieces and great-nephews: Alexander Thomas, Alysia Reed, James Curtis Beck II, Amber Beck, Ashley Beck, Colton Beck and Wyatt Beck; special friends, The Schirm Family; The Dexter Fire Department Family; Earl’s Racing Family and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
