Obituary for Elaine Petersen
Margaret Elaine Petersen, 93 of rural Redfield passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at her home. Celebration of Life service will be held from 1-4 P.M. on Saturday, May 28th at Elaine's Farm (15957 240th St, Redfield, IA 50233). Memorial contributions may be directed to the Redfield American Legion Auxiliary and/or Iowa PBS. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Elaine, as she was better known, was born on November 3, 1928 to Earl and Jennie Mae (Marion) Dudley in Guthrie County. She attended Redfield Schools and graduated from Redfield High School with the class of 1946. Following high school, she attended Iowa Teacher’s College, now UNI and later Drake University. She taught special education for over 30 years at Perry Community Schools.
Elaine was united in marriage to Kendall Petersen in 1954 and to this union five children were born: Betty, Roger, Linda, Karen and Vicki. The family made their home north of Redfield. She was a long time member of the Redfield Legion Auxiliary and was involved in many education organizations, including Dallas County Retired Teachers. In her spare time, she enjoyed puzzles, gardening, reading and traveling. She especially loved Christmas time and spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Betty Williamson; and siblings: Max Dudley, Carl Dudley, Glen Dudley, John Dudley, Verna Larson, Dean Dudley, and Norma Jean Dudley.
She leaves behind her children: Roger (Bobbi) Petersen of Adel, Linda (Steve) Proctor of Aurora, CO, Karen Petersen of Raleigh, NC, Vicki (Terry) Cornett of Lindsborg, KS; special family friend, Betty Proctor of Aurora, CO; grandchildren: Ashlee (Jason) Smethers, Sylvia (Tyler) Navin, Philip (Bonnie) Hatfield, Kate (Tom) Rollag, Jordan (Emily) Proctor, Owen (Raina) Proctor, Tiffany (Andrew) Easley, Ben (Kathryn) Proctor; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lois Dudley and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
