Obituary for Elizabeth "Betty" Wells
Elizabeth “Betty” Ellen Wells, 96, of Dexter, Iowa passed away October 18, 2015 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Visitation will be held 6:00-7:30 P.M. Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home – Dexter Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Presbyterian Church in Dexter. Burial will follow the services in the Dexter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Betty Wells Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home. Betty as she was known, was born July 17, 1919 in Dexter, Iowa to Kenneth and Ruby E. Blohm Neal. She was raised in Dexter and graduated from Dexter High School with the class of 1936. Betty was united in marriage to Mervin D. Wells on June 28, 1943 and together they became the proud parents of two children, Vince and Patty. After their marriage they made their home in the Dexter area. Betty was employed by the bank in Dexter for several years before retiring in 1989. She was an active member of the Dexter Presbyterian Church and the Crazy Eights Bridge Club. Betty enjoyed cross stitching, reading, crossword puzzles, watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes play and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, congeniality, and love for her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mervin Wells, sisters, Nadine Shepherd and Marian Beaman, brothers, Warren, Willis, and Scott Neal, sisters-in-law, Helen Neal and brothers-in-law John Shepherd and Harvey Beaman.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Vince (Audrey) Wells of Dexter and Patty (David) McKee of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Wendy (Pat) Murphy, Jeremy (Stefanie) Wells, Joshua Wells and friend Jamie Nieman, Michelle (Torin) Blount and Amy (Thomas) Bouasy; great-grandchildren, Megan and Chloe Murphy, Jordan and Austin Wells, Mia and Riley Wells, Makayla, Tanner and Bryce Blount and Abby and Kennedy Bouasy.
