Sarah Elizabeth “Liz” Kalbach, 79, of Stuart, passed away March 6, 2019 at Adel Acres in Adel. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart. A celebration of her life will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in North Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Liz Kalbach Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Liz, as she was known, by family and friends, was born March 17, 1939 at her parents’ home in Menlo, Iowa , to Harry Washington and Mary (McKee) Kalbach. She was raised in Menlo and graduated from Menlo High School with the class of 1957. Growing up Liz worked at the restaurant, which was attached to her dad’s filling station. Following high school, Liz was employed at Woodland Sundry’s in Des Moines and then was employed at several restaurant’s in the area such as Archie’s 88, Truck Haven, Menlo Cafe and Harris House before being employed at Sears in Des Moines. She retired from Sears after 15 years as a Credit Analyst. Liz enjoyed doing family ancestry, writing letters to the editor, bowling, playing pool and card games with friends, rock collecting, and fishing. Most of all, Liz enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Barbara Zanders and Gretchen Kalbach, brothers, Gerald Kalbach and Harry Kalbach and her three beloved dogs, Dottie, Major and Patsy.
Liz leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, John (Michelle) Kalbach of Lakeville, Minnesota and Michael Kalbach of Stuart; grandchildren, Alex, Jonathan, Nathan, Alexander and Keely; great-grandson David; nieces and nephews, Gerald (Delores) Zanders, Tarasita Dasalla, J.R. Zanders, Andy (Carol) Zanders, Kelli Zo, Colleen (Dave) Hodson, Julia (Travis) Green, and Kurt Kalbach and a host of other relatives and friends all of whom will miss her greatly.
