Obituary for Elveda A. Davis
Elveda Davis, 93, of Stuart, formerly of Redfield passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Iowa Methodist West Hospital in West Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, December 31st at the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren in rural Adel. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be at Harper Cemetery near Redfield. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Redfield American Legion Auxiliary #261 and/or the Stuart CCC Foundation and maybe sent in care of the funeral home. Elveda was born to Earl and Myrle Soper on December 15, 1921 in Adair County. Elveda spent her childhood in Adair County, graduating from Fontanelle High School with the class of 1939. She was married on February 28, 1940 to Guy Clark, and lost an infant baby boy on August 14, 1945. They were later divorced and Guy died in 1990.
Elveda was active in Saddle Club of Anita, Greenfield, Casey and Redfield for a number of years. She also attended many horse shows and trail rides. She was very active in gardening, quilting, and other outdoor activities. Elveda worked at restaurants as a cook and waitress in Atlantic, Adair, Stuart and at Happy Chef in Des Moines.
On December 15, 1976 she was married to Loren H. Davis of Dallas County at the Little Brown Church. They made their home in on the farm in Dallas County. Elveda retired in 1985 as a homemaker .
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #261 of Redfield.
Her latest interest was the love of her cats. Loren and Elveda enjoyed ten years wintering in Mesa, AZ, where they enjoyed square dancing and golfing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Myrle Soper and an infant son.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Loren; step-daughter, Linda (David) Lantz of Redfield; step-son, Larry (Dode) Davis of Adel; grandchildren, Tony (Regina) Davis and their children, Ana and Carter, Cristine Blaine and her son Aaron (Ashley) and their children, Kennedy and McKenzie, Lisa Lantz (Scott Bassford) and their children, Van and Gray, Dustin (Cristen) Lantz and their children Isaac and Lily; cousins, Shirley Hughes of Panora and Gerald Soper of Anita; special friend, Connie (John) Scarlett; and a host of other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
