Elvin L. Cave, 76 of Redfield passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Adel Acres. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 25th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 26th the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Services will be livestreamed on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/johnsonfamilyfh). Burial with military honors will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Elvin was born on April 30, 1946 to Lavern and Barbara (Long) Cave in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Redfield and attended Dexfield Schools graduating with the class of 1964. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably until 1967. On June 1, 1968 he was united in marriage to Ruth Landon in Anita. To this union two children were born: Wesley and Amy.
Elvin was a longtime employee at Sande Lumber in Adel and Consumer Lumber in Des Moines until his retirement. He was a member of the Redfield American Legion. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, riding motorcycles, drag racing, going to the casino and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Doug Cave; sister, Bev Kinzie; brother-in-law, David John Kinzie; and son-in-law, Gregg Shattuck.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth of Redfield; son, Wesley (Sue) Cave of Adel; daughter, Amy Shattuck of De Soto; grandchildren: Jacob (Bailey) Cave, Mason (Jonna) Cave, and Kadin Shattuck; step-granddaughters, Mickayla (Jake) Kendall and Emma (Lucas) Brown; great-grandchildren: Jaxon Cave, Adalynn Cave and Ellie Cave; siblings: Janet (Dwane) Stoddard of Texas, Dennis (Becky) Cave of North Carolina, Bruce Cave of Redfield, Brenda Searl of Carlisle, and Earl (Tracy) Whetstone of Schaller; several step brothers and sisters; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
