Obituary for Ethel Kunkle
Ethel E. Kunkle, 86, of Stuart passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Guthrie County Memorial Hospital. Memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, June 18th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Luncheon will follow the service at the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church. Cards of condolence may be sent to the family, in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Ethel was born to William Lester and Mae Belle Summy of Redfield, Iowa. She grew up in Redfield and attended Redfield Schools graduating with the class of 1954. Following her schooling she trained to be a medical assistant. She later worked for Dr. Taylor in Stuart for over 30 years. On June 20, 1954 she was united in marriage to Don Kunkle at the Redfield Christian Church. The couple made their home in Redfield and later moved to their home in Stuart in 1968.
Ethel was an active member of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, UMW, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Iowa Medical Assistants Board, Stuart Public Library Board, Stuart Lions, Hospice of Iowa, Girl Scout Leader, and the Guthrie County Hospital Foundation Board. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, and shopping. She was also particularly fond of collecting items especially White House Christmas Ornaments and memorabilia.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; sons: Darwin, Doug and Chris; grandchildren, Chad Miller and Carrie Arp; and siblings: sister Pat brothers Verne, Richard, Lyle, Leonard and Harold.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Don; children, Deborah Miller and David Kunkle; sisters Betty Bryan, and Mary (Gail) Gehrke; grandchildren: Charles (Ashley) Miller, Chasity (Chris) Klink, Candee (Mike) Morrison, Travis (Ali) Kunkle, Calvin (Liz) Kunkle, Whitney (Dylan) Roozeboom, Noah Olney, Joshua (Megan) Olney and Beau Olney; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
