She graduated from Dexter High School with the class of 1939. Following graduation she enrolled at AIB School of Business in Des Moines. In 1943, she enlisted in the US Navy serving in San Francisco during WWII. She was honorably discharged in 1946. Florence was united in marriage to Charles Piercy on November 2, 1946. To this union two daughter were born, Gail and Dixie. The family made their home in Pitzer, Earlham and later Adel. Florence worked as a telephone operator in Pitzer and later did clerical work at Northwest Community Hospital.
Florence was a member of the Adel Christian Church and Adel American Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing; later in life she enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles. Most important to Florence was her time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bernice Hill; husband, Charles Piercy; daughter, Gail; and sisters: Margaret (Carl) Metz, Nina (Leonard) Fleischer, and Irene (Clayton) Scott.
Florence leaves behind her daughter, Dixie (Kenny) Summy of Earlham; grandchildren, Stephanie (Eric) Raber of Earlham and Chad (Sara) Summy of Papillion, NE; great-grandchildren: Lindsey, Sophia, Charlie, Elsie; and a host of extended families and friends that will miss her dearly.
