Floyd Edward Meacham, 98, of Panora passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, February 1st at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 2nd at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will be at Morrisburg Cemetery. Floyd was born on February 10, 1918 to Frank and Victoria (Hutchens) Meacham near Minburn, Iowa. He attended Washington Township High School and graduated with the class of 1935. On May 16, 1941 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jane Ford in Bethany, Missouri. Floyd enlisted in the United State Army on May 27, 1942 in Des Moines. He served honorably during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was discharged in 1945 and returned home to Des Moines to begin farming with his brother. In 1947, the family moved to rural Panora (Pearidge) and Floyd began farming full time until his retirement. After Barbara’s death Floyd moved into Panora where he remained the rest of his life.
Floyd was a member of the Redfield American Legion, Guthrie County Cattleman’s, ASCS Board, Redfield United Methodist Church and Redfield UMC Board. He was a man that could fix almost anything and enjoyed time visiting and helping friends fixing and remodeling. He helped Barbara with her garden, peeling apples and pitting cherries. He also enjoyed reading western novels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; two sons, John and Steve; great-grandson, Zach Meacham; siblings: Dean Meacham, Ivan Meacham and Phyllis Ayers.
Floyd leaves behind his children, Jay (Mary) Meacham of Liberty, MO and Candace (Roger) Milbourn of Carlisle; daughter-in-law, Patricia Meacham of Panora; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; siblings: Treva Melton, Dorothy Newbrough, Ruby Lenze, Louise Miller, Leonard Meacham, Donna Belgarde; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
