Floyd Valentine Faust, 96, of Stuart, Iowa passed away February 1, 2024, at Mercy West Medical Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. Cremation has taken place at Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory and a Celebration of Life Service will be held later. Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Faust Memorial Fund, which will be distributed to Floyd’s favorite charities.
Floyd was born on August 10, 1927, to August Bernard Faust and Effie (Valentine) Faust. He was born in Madison County but lived almost all his life on the farm his grandfather, John Valentine homesteaded. It was given the Century Farm Award, which is something that Floyd cherished. He attended rural schools in Adair County and graduated from Stuart High School with the class of 1945. Following graduation, Floyd was drafted into military service during World War II and served in the United States Army Air Corp (Air Force). During this time, he served as a dispatcher at a plane refueling station in Bermuda. Following his military service he farmed. He also was the scale master at the Stuart Sale Barn for many years. On February 12, 1955, Floyd was united in marriage to Rita Rae McDowall at the Methodist Church in Stuart. They were blessed with three children, Sheril Ann, David Lee and Brenda Sue. Floyd served the community in several ways. He served on the Stuart School Board when Stuart and Menlo schools were combined. Many late meetings were held during this time. He was on the Adair County Fair Board and was their director for many years, was a member of the Adair County Cattleman’s Association, member of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), long time member of the James C. McGee American Legion. He had a great love for horses and cows. He took great pleasure in raising good calves. Floyd was a real cowboy; he owned and rode many great horses through the years. He also loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. They all were the apple of his eye.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Effie, his in laws, Keith and Opal McDowall, his sisters and their husbands, Mary and Burdette Spiker, Thelma and Robert Furste and brother Billy B. Faust; Son-in-laws, Robert Harper and Todd Bogenrief, twin great grandsons, Ryan Laverne and Lance Valentine Standley, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Robert Alexander, brother-in-laws Del McDowall, Kit McDowall, and nephews Kent Alexander and Bernard Spiker.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rita Faust; children, Sheril Bogenrief of Stuart, Iowa, Brenda (Ted) Standley of Greenfield, Iowa and David Faust of Bryan, Texas; grandchildren, Tyler (McKenzie) Standley, Nick (Megan) Standley, Megan Harper (Jack Burnham), Monica (Michael) Oatman, Harrison (Jessie) Faust, and Nathan (Samantha) Faust; great grandchildren, Shayd Valentine Standley, Will Faust, Hunter Faust, and Swayde Elayne Faust. His sister-in-law, Sandra Faust, her sons Scott Faust and Thom (Phillip) Faust, sister-in-law, Millie McDowell her children, Kelly (Marnie) McDowall, and children Klay and Claire McDowall, Mindi (Bob) Whiteis and their children Sami and Will; sister and brother in law, Sue and Dean Ford and their children, Carla Bentson and daughters Alex (Glenn), Samantha Hammonds (Luke) and Kelsey Miles (Nate), Mike Ford (Sherry) and stepchildren Sharon and Tim, and Brian Ford; sister-in-law Donna McDowall and her children, Corey McDowell and Stacy (Scott) Ray and their children Hayden (Alex) and Brenna; nephew, Greg (Jan) Furste and son Alan; Niece Bonnie Hall, Nephews, Ben (Shannon) Hall and their children Brayden and Ryan, Josh Hall and his children, Izzy, Lucy and Ruby, Zach (Rachael) and their children, Heidi, Halle, and Zeb, nephew Craig Spiker and his daughter Claire; nieces, Robin (Jeff) Wisgerhof and their children, Jake (Ashley) Wisgerhof, and their children, Josie and Amelia, Charlie (Daivd) Miller and children, Bridger and Colter; niece, Ryann (Brian Comito) Cole and her children, Jenna (Trevor) Zoss and Julia Cole and many other relatives and friends.
For 96 years Floyd has called Stuart home. He has always found friendship and kindness here. Especially from those at the Stuart Vet Clinic and Wilson Supply. May he have found a big green pasture with no river gaps and a Remuda of really good horses and lots of cows.
