Obituary for Frederick Alexander
F. LeRoy Alexander, 81, of Grimes (formerly of Montezuma), passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 at his home in Grimes after a short bout with cancer. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the LeRoy Alexander Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, P.O. LeRoy as he was known, was born August 4, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Robert and Helen (Pote) Alexander. He grew up in Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1953 where he did his training in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. On April 21, 1956, LeRoy was united in marriage to Colette Martes at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, Iowa. He and Colette resided in Des Moines, Boone, Marshalltown and Ankeny, Iowa. He was employed by Northwestern Bell/AT&T until he retired in 1986. After his retirement they moved to Montezuma, Iowa. During their time at the lake, he worked at the marina. LeRoy looked forward to cruising the lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona. LeRoy was so very proud of his grandchildren. He loved going to all of their activities, from dance, to sports, to racing. He also enjoyed woodworking and making crafts.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
LeRoy was proceeded in death by his parents Bob and Helen Alexander, brother Bob and his wife Kay, father-in-law and mother-in-law Harry and Catherine Martes and sister-in-law Phyllis Henry.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of 59 years Colette Alexander of Grimes Iowa, daughter, Cathy (Randy) Heston of Derby, Iowa; Sons, Mike (Brenda) Alexander of Indianola Iowa, and Tom (Michele) Alexander of Grimes Iowa; Grandchildren Eric (Kelly) and Adam Heston of Derby Iowa, Andrea and Nicole Alexander of Indianola Iowa, Emily, Caitlin, and Jacob Alexander of Grimes Iowa; two brothers Bill (Jane) Alexander of Montezuma Iowa, and Jim (Joyce) Alexander of Lafayette Colorado; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law Jim and Sharon Martes of Montezuma Iowa, many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
