Obituary for Gene Charles Martin
Gene Charles Martin, 90, passed away Saturday, March 28th. Gene was born May 10, 1929, to Karl and Vera (Vought) Martin. He graduated from Redfield High School and joined the Army where he was a cook stationed in Germany. Upon return Gene worked as a grain inspector. Gene married Carolyn Gibbons on August 18, 1953. They were married for 65 years. Gene was a member of the Masons, The Redfield Legion, The Lions and the United Methodist Church in Redfield. He was mayor of Redfield, a boy scout leader and on the school board for many years. He was well known for his pranks, big smile and generous heart. He loved spending Saturday mornings cooking breakfast at the Legion Hall. He enjoyed getting to know people, traveling, golf, bridge and cribbage.

He enjoyed spending time with family. He loved attending school and sporting activities of his children and grandchildren.

Gene is survived by his children Greg (Julie) of Johnston, Randy (Jayne) of Rockwell City, Karla (Bruce) Miller of Stuart. Grandchildren, Chad (Amber) Martin of Norwalk, Jill Martin of Norwalk, Alex Miller of Dexter, Reece (Allie) Uhlenhopp of Johnston, Max (Sabra) Miller of Topeka, KS, Sam Miller of Linden, Ryan Martin of Rockwell City and five great-grandchildren.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his twin sister Jeannine, infant son, Kevin and grandson Justin Martin. Celebration of life service will be scheduled later. Memorial contributions can be made to the Redfield United Methodist Church or The Redfield Legion. A huge Thank You to his “family” at the Willows and Stuart Care Center.
