Obituary for Gerald Jay Lindberg

Gerald “Jerry” Jay Lindberg, 67, of Casey passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Private graveside service will be held at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery near Van Meter. Cards of condolence may be sent to the family in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, Iowa 50250. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Jerry was born on October 12, 1953 to Russell and Verna (Madesen) Lindberg in Dexter, Iowa. He was the third of six children and grew up in Stuart. On January 17, 1975 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably until his discharge in 1979. He was united in marriage to Victoria “Vicky” Ann Lyddon on August 25, 1994 in Stuart, Iowa. The couple later made their home in Casey. Jerry worked 19 years at Bridgestone-Firestone in Des Moines.

In his spare time he enjoyed target shooting and re-loading ammo. He loved spending time on the back deck, yardwork, watching westerns, Sunday grill outs and wildlife. He read the newspaper daily and stayed up on all the current events. Most of all he treasured time he spent with Vicky and Nick, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry Scott; and brothers, Glen and Robert “Nacho” Lindberg. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Charles Lindberg who raised the first flag on Mount Suribachi at the Battle of Iwo Jima and his uncle Ralph Madesen who served in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Victoria of Casey; son, Gunner Lindberg of California; son, Nicholas “Nick” Lindberg of Casey; siblings: Keith (Jaci) Lindberg of Stuart, Dale “Tucker” Lindberg of Stuart and Joan Lindberg of Stuart; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss him dearly.
