Gerald was born September 14, 1927 to Hallett and Ruth (Brandell) Harvey on the family farm in rural Guthrie County, Iowa. He attended rural school before attending Redfield High School, where he graduated with the class of 1945. As a baby he won baby grand champion at the county fair. Following graduation, Gerald was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Virginia Haines on November 9, 1946 in Panora. To this union four children were born, Marcia, Richard, Robert, and Barbara. After their marriage they moved to California where they lived for a few years before making their home in Waukee. While living in Waukee, Gerald worked for the Waukee Elevator for 17+ years where he made numerous lifelong friends. From Waukee, they moved to the Harvey family farm, a certified Century Farm where he was the fourth generation farmer.

Gerald was a member of the Stuart-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir; and was a trustee of the Penn township board where they lived. He enjoyed traveling, visiting friends and family, playing cards, music, and most of all, farming the land.Gerald was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia, of 68+ years; and parents, Hallett and Ruth Harvey, sister, Margery Dudley.

Gerald leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children: Marcia Ward of Florida, Richard (Jacci) Harvey of Clive, Robert (Ruth) Harvey of Rural Redfield and Barbara Harvey of Waukee; grandchildren, Mike Anthony, Jon (Shelley) Anthony, Philip (Heather) Anthony, Katie (Rick) Harvey-Martinez and Caroline Harvey; seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Couch of Adel and a host of other family and friends that will miss him dearly.
