Trudy, as she was known by family and friends, was born on September 7, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John and Gertrude Reynolds Maley. She grew up in Philadelphia and graduated from Cardinal-Docurday High School with the class of 1944. Trudy was united in marriage to Max Askren on February 5, 1949 in Philadelphia and to this union five children were born; Roseann, John, Michael, Chuck, and Timothy. Following getting married, they moved several times with Max being full time military. Following, Philadelphia, they moved to Norfolk, Virginia, Bayonne, New Jersey, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Jacksonville, Florida. While Max was stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Trudy was a member of the Gray Ladies, which was a part of the Red Cross for many years. Max was then stationed in the Des Moines areas as a Navy Recruiter, when they moved their family to Stuart, Iowa. While in Stuart, Trudy was very active being a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society within the church. She helped start the first EMT/Ambulance service in Stuart, which has grown to what it is has become today. Max retired from the Navy while they were living in Stuart, Iowa in 1968. The family then moved from Stuart to Scottsbluff, Nebraska where Max built a Hot-Dip Galvanizing Plant. Trudy was very active in the church and the school while living in Scottsbluff. After two years of living in Scottsbluff, they moved to Tipton, Iowa where she became active within their ambulance service as well. Max and Trudy moved to Irving, Texas before finally residing in Kansas City, Missouri. Max preceded her death in 2015. Following Max’s passing, Trudy continued making Kansas City her home. She enjoyed cooking and baking, watching her grandchildren’s school and sporting events, was an avid collector and with that said, would travel to many collector shows to buy and sell her collections. Trudy believed in the mission of St. Jude’s Hospital and donated regularly. Trudy’s priority in life was to enjoy the quality time spent with her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Max, daughter, Roseann, son, John, sister, Marie Brady, and brother, Jack Maley.
