Obituary for Grace LaVonne Sheeder
Grace LaVonne Sheeder, 87, of Casey, Iowa passed away peacefully May 19, 2021 at the Guthrie County Hospital. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, May 24, 2021 at the Casey United Methodist Church in Casey. Burial will follow the services in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaVonne Sheeder Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
LaVonne as she was known by family and friends was born January 24, 1934 in Casey to Roy A. and Vivian F. (Tichnor) Avey at the family home. She was raised in Casey and attended Casey Public School. LaVonne married her high school sweetheart Ralph Lloyd Sheeder on July 9, 1950 in Greenfield, Iowa and together they became the proud parents of four children, Ray, Kathleen, Gail, and Debra. Following their marriage, they lived outside of Greenfield and Menlo before returning to Casey to make their home. LaVonne worked at Mary’s Café in the early years and the Moon Lithographing and Interstate Assurance Company where she retired in 1992. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Casey, the Casey United Methodist Church where she was active in helping with the funeral dinners and the Snappy Steppers Square Dancing Club. Besides dancing, LaVonne enjoyed playing cards, camping, and traveling on bus trips.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Vivian Avey, her beloved husband, Ralph in 2015, two brothers, Bruce and Larry Avey, one sister, Irene Sheldahl and one brother-in-law, Chuck Sheldahl.
LaVonne leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Ray (Sue) Sheeder of Johnston, Kathleen “Kat” (David) Betts of Stuart, Gail Sheeder of Casey, and Debra Sheeder of Newton; grandchildren: Brandi (Lyle) Nevins, April Dillinger, Jamie (Jason) Willis, Jessica (Jay) Gohn, Tawnya Sheeder, Zak (Caitlin) Sheeder, Tracy (Darin) Hall, Jeremiah (Christine) Betts, Bridget Sheeder, Britni Sheeder, Tiffany Sheeder, Brice Sheeder, Valerie Sheeder, Jeremy Sheeder; 31 great-grandchildren; brother, Chuck (Nadine) Avey of Stuart; sisters-in-law, Brenda Avey of North Carolina and Judy Avey of Guthrie Center and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.
