Obituary for Helen Juanita DeRosear
Helen J. DeRosear, 93, formerly of Menlo passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Visitation will be from 5-7 on Thursday, March 10th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Private family graveside services will be held at Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital and/or the DeRosear Family Scholarship Fund. Helen was born on June 15, 1922 to Fred and Mabel Morton near Kirksville, Missouri. She married Paul DeRosear in 1946 and they made their home in Menlo, where they raised their daughter.
Helen was a member of the Methodist Church, Circle, American Legion Auxiliary, Menlo Study Club and a charter member of the 5x80 Golf and Country Club.
Helen served as the Menlo Public Librarian from 1962 to 1972, then transferred to the Stuart-Menlo School where she served as librarian until her retirement in 1988.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Paula Koegel (Patrick Hopkins) of Urbandale and her granddaughter, Jackie Koegel of Beaverton, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
