Obituary for Helen Lawrence

Helen Lawrence, 84, of Stuart passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Community Care Center in Stuart. Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.

Helen was born on November 6, 1936 to Benjamin Franklin and Violet Imogene (Weiss) Woods. She grew up in Lenox and graduated from Lenox High School. Following graduation she attended DMACC. She was united in marriage to Robert Lawrence and to this union three children were born: Violet, Robert and Kathryn. Helen was employed at Stone Container in Des Moines for 32 years before her retirement in 2000. She lived for ten years with her daughter Violet on the farm south of Stuart before lastly moving to the Community Care Center in Stuart.

In her spare time, Helen loved to play Bingo, spend time in her garden and canning. She loved her dogs and especially spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Steve Biers.

She leaves behind her daughter, Violet (Pat) McGinnis of rural Stuart; son, Robert (Lisa) Lawrence of Des Moines; grandsons, Eddy and Billy Lawrence; three great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Dwayne Woods, Patricia Hengly and Verla Cauther; and a host of extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
