Obituary for Howard Laverne Bennett
Howard Laverne Bennett, 88, of Redfield passed on Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Thursday, September 15th at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 16th at the Stuart Friends Church. Burial will be at West Linn Cemetery in Linden. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Stuart Friends Church and sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home, PO Box 246, Stuart, IA 50250. Howard Laverne Bennett was born in Van Meter, Iowa on April 19, 1928 to Fred M. and Faye (Lint) Bennett. He moved to Redfield when he was 7 years old and lived there the rest of his life. He married LuVena Knapp on June 4, 1950. To this union was born eight children: Howard Jr. or Redfield, Rose Ellen (Ken) McFarland of Redfield, Gwen (Jim) Leavell of Dexter, Tim (Chris) Bennett of Waterloo, Tony (Roxanna) Bennett of Redfield, Tom (Thom) Bennett/Guzman of Nevada City, California, Carol (Bob) Salazar of Dexter, Crystal Wieda of Redfield; sister, Ruth Howard of Bettendorf. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. His family was his whole world.
Howard was a 25 year member of the Stuart Friends Church. He loved to go to church and enjoyed the fellowship with the church family. He worked for the City of Redfield for 27 years and various other places. He loved to fish, hunt and most of all trap. His garden was his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grand-daughter, Sarah Salazar; sister, Helen Blake; brother, Bobby Bennett; and niece, Pat Martin.
