Ilah Faye Kingery (Rumple) Varley was born on March 4, 1935, to Lowell and Hallie (Sparling) Kingery on the family farm in a snow storm with the doctor arriving by horse near Canby, IA. She attended country school and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1953. After high school she worked in Des Moines at Bankers Life. The marriage to Robert (Bob) Rumple on March 27, 1955 was blessed with two sons, Brad and Brian. She also worked at White Appliance, Casey Elementary, Adair-Casey High School, Casey Mill & Elevator, and Casey United Methodist Church. Working as secretary of the high school, gave her the upper hand on their boys. She was always first to know when they came walking by her on the way to the principal’s office. Bob and Ilah were seen at many sporting events even after the boys graduated.
Ilah was a member of the Casey Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star Lodge, and also a member of the Casey United Methodist Church. Ilah and Bob enjoyed over 50 years as part of the Pinochle Card Club and were charter members of the 5x80 Country Club.
After Bob passed away in 2010, Ilah joined Charles Varley in marriage on November 11, 2011 (11-11-11 easy for all to remember). The two enjoyed each other’s company in their adventures of nearly 12 years. They enjoyed helping on the family farms, wintering in warm Arizona, watching Iowa State, the Phoenix Suns, golfers in their back yard, and having visitors from near and far.
Her big extended family meant the world to Ilah. Watching the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids in person and online gave her the twinkle in her eye and gracious smile she always wore. Ilah’s warm hugs, compassion, and love will greatly be missed by all, but especially her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that she cherished so dear. Ilah’s amazing life and legacy will live on through all of them.
