Jacqueline C. Freeland, a cherished matriarch and beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, in Dallas Center at the age of 85. Born on July 22, 1939, in Missoula, Montana, Jacque's early years were filled with the beauty of Montana's landscapes before moving to Fresno, California, in 1945 where a new chapter of her life began.
A proud graduate of San Joaquin Memorial High School, Jacque's athletic prowess was evident in her participation in track, swimming, and tennis. Her zest for life continued as she returned to Missoula to pursue an education in radiology.
Jacque's enthusiastic spirit was matched by her loving heart, which found its perfect complement in Donald Freeland. The couple wed on April 30, 1960, in Fresno, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would span over six decades. Their union was a testament to unwavering commitment, and together they built a life filled with joy and purpose. To this union three children were born, Lisa, Donna and Patrick.
Jacque's professional life was marked by her dedication and skill as a lab technician. Her work with esteemed organizations such as Christian Brothers Winery (California), Gas Hills Uranium Project (Wyoming), Oscar Mayer, National By-Products and Pioneer, where she retired after many years of service, reflected her dedication and commitment to excellence.
Her involvement in the community was heartfelt. Jacque was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and St. John's Catholic Church in Adel, where her musical talents blessed many a service as she played the organ with grace and devotion. Music remained a constant joy throughout her life. As a Boy Scout leader, her adventurous spirit, wisdom and patience helped guide the next generation of Scouts.
Jacque's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An accomplished quilter, she crafted beautiful quilts that became treasured gifts for her children and grandchildren. Her love of gardening was evident in the bountiful harvests and vibrant blooms that surrounded her home. Above all, Jacque's family was the center of her universe, and she cherished every moment spent in their company.
Preceded in death by her parents, John and Fern Munson, her husband Donald, and her brother John Munson Jr., Jacque's legacy continues through her loving family.
She is survived by her children, Lisa (Randy) Howell of Dallas Center, Iowa, Donna (Paul) Yoshida of Half Moon Bay, California, and Patrick (Kim) Freeland of Dallas Center, Iowa; her treasured grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, Daniel, Jessica, Allison, Jillian, Rachel, Jordon, and Ryan; and her adored great-grandchildren, Kinley, Amelia, Kaia, McKenzie, Eliza, Emmalyn, Peyton, Isabella, Analia, Teddy, Sloane, Dakota, Matilda, and Ember. Her sisters, Joan P. Growdon of Fresno, California and Kathryn A. Schlitz of Atascadero, California, along with a host of extended family and friends, will carry her memory forward with love and admiration.
Jacque's life was a portrait of loving selflessness. Her kindness touched all who knew her, and her nature ensured that her impact would be felt far beyond her immediate circle. As we remember Jacqueline C. Freeland, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, a heart generously given, and memories that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Donald. Online condolences may be left at www.johnsonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
